'I have achieved in 5 months, what I couldn't do in years.'

“Hello, my name is Saskia and I am 45-year-old mum of three. At the age of 30, I received the diagnosis of an autoimmune disease, called fibromyalgia. This news shattered my world; I found myself reliant on painkillers just to make it through each day. The medication, coupled with the constant pain and limited mobility, quickly caused my weight to climb from 65 to 85kg.

Desperate for change, I attempted various diets, initially on my own and later with the guidance of a dietician. While I did manage to shed 5 kg, it was a huge struggle. The constant effort to weigh the ingredients, count the calories, etc. and the need of having to justify every bite I ate to the dietician, left me unhappy, ashamed and exhausted. Eventually, I abandoned the regimen, only to see my weight rebound to 85kg once more.

It was during this low point that my sister introduced me to Simple Biohacks. Sceptical yet hopeful, I decided to give it a try. Under Wendy’s guidance, I incorporated various health hacks, including apple cider vinegar and a full-fat coffee blend into my mornings. Contrary to my expectations, I didn't experience hunger pangs; instead, I felt energized and satiated until midday. With no need to meticulously weigh my food, and the ability to eat what I want, I felt a huge sense of relief. This was actually surprisingly easy.

After about 2 weeks of this new routine, my energy levels soared, and I began to notice positive changes throughout my body. As I continued with the programme, not only did my weight and measurements decrease, but, most importantly, I found myself relying less on pain medication and able to engage in more physical activity.

 I founded Simple Biohacks on the premise that the world needs female coaches to teach women how to look and feel their best. All too often, men tell us what we should and shouldn’t do, but frankly, their hormonal cycle is very different to ours and most clinical studies have been done on men, rather than women. That’s right, for centuries, women were excluded from studies and our needs ignored. So, who better to show us what to do, than a woman who has “been there and done that” and has the results to show.

Let me take you back…

People have always said to me: “You’re so lucky that you can eat what you want and still be skinny.” And they’re right, I am lucky – to some extent.

I love exercising and am naturally energetic. I have also been a workaholic (for years, 60-hour work weeks were the norm for me), I was traveling non-stop for business (often for weeks on end – which was exhausting!), I had a poor nutritious diet (hello room service) and was constantly snacking (give me chocolate or a biscuit, and I’ll eat the whole pack in one go!). So yes, to some people I may have looked like I had it all and had this beautiful body. But I was not well at all!

For years I have struggled, and felt totally alone in my journey…

I wasn’t happy with how my body was ageing; I felt bloated, anxious, overwhelmed and worst of all, I struggled with a dreadful hormone imbalance.

Every month around my menstrual phase, I had horrible PMS symptoms: extreme diarrea, bloating as if I was 6 months pregnant, embarrassing gas (oh, the sounds I made!). I was on the toilet every 20 minutes, which is embarrassing enough when you’re at home, but imagine being in the office or gym cubicles! I just wanted to hide myself or crawl into a corner for 4 days every month! It was really unpleasant and affected my daily and social life and self-esteem. I was dreading “the time of the month” and planned it into my calendar so I could avoid any social contact during those times.

The final straw…

After years of hospital visits, blood tests and scans, I was consistently told by doctors that there was nothing wrong with me. That “PMSing” is normal and that I would just have to live with it. Ha! They clearly didn't know me! If they had, they’d know I would stop at nothing to find out what this was and how to cure it.

I knew there must be a way…

There must be a way to heal my body, to break free from all these symptoms, to thrive like the woman I was born to be. So, I said: No more! And set out to investigate, determined to fix "whatever it was" myself.

I decided to really delve deep…

I read up on hormonal imbalance, gut health, food intolerances, took the courses, followed the experts, consumed all the books and podcasts, got knowledgeable. I took control of my body. Those who know me, know I have a lot of drive and passion. So when I'm set out to do something, that's exactly what I'll do.

I learned about nutrition, hormones, mind-gut connection, stress control, living in sync with your cycle, etc. I experimented to see what worked and what didn’t. I did the blood tests and wore the gadgets (glucose and keto monitors, health trackers – you name it). And low and behold, it was working!

OMG, it REALLY, REALLY worked!

 Gone are the monthly discomforts! Gone is the bloating! Gone is the anxiety! I'm completely in tune with my body. I know what works and what’s just a fad. I've learned to listen to my body and give it the attention it deserves. On my journey, I have not only rebalanced my hormones and improved my overall health. But I also have much more energy, I have turned my body into a fat-burning machine, I have reduced inflammation, I have found inner peace and I have never felt leaner and fitter. I look and feel like a completely new person!

And then it hit me…

I had figured out an effective, sustainable way to transform my body and mind, and it was so much easier than I thought!

But it gets even better!

This didn't just work for me. I was able to “cure” myself, but I have also been able to help my sister and my mum who both have a chronic disease called fibromyalgia, which causes pain all over their body, fatigue, inflammation, muscle cramps and stiffness, weight gain, etc. The disease used to prevent them from doing physical activities, but thanks to my Simple Biohacks they are able to go on daily walks and ride their bicycle! They have both experienced improved energy, less pain, reduced inflammation and sustainable weight loss. And the cherry on top of the cake is that my sister’s disease is reversing! Mind blown! I couldn’t be happier for them.
